GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications The smart antenna technology Expanding the concept of smart antenna, only focusing on two key points: one is the adaptive another is the multiple antenna Adaptive multiple antenna technology including: Diversity Antenna: transmit diversity and receive diversity; Beam Forming: adaptive array antenna, or smart antenna; Space Multiplexing: Multi-Input and Multi-Output; Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) Producing several parallel channel Independent data streams are transmitted on several parallel channels so that total channel capacity is increased. e.g.: 4 times data rate can be achieved by 4Tx-4Rx antenna Multiple Antenna (1)

GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications Adaptive array –Transmitting the same data in different antenna; –Providing directional beam, mitigating the MAI –Improving the reliability of the channel. –Adapting the radio environment of lack scatters out doors –Smaller antenna space MIMO –Transmitting independent data in different antenna –Providing space multiplex gain to increase capacity. –Adding extra parallel channels –Adapting the radio environment of rich scatters in doors –Larger antenna space Multiple Antenna (2)

GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications HSDPA Basic concept of HSDPA Features of Packet Data non-sensitive to delay sensitive to error burst transmission pursuing the throughput of system Packet Data Access by regulating the rate of data to adapt the change of channel condition Key techniques of HSDPA Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) Hybrid ARQ Fast scheduling algorithm; Enhance uplink technique Similar to HSDPA, the key techniques including: AMC HARQ and Fast scheduling algorithm also be called as HSUPA High Speed Packet Access
