3 2 Executive Summary Significant support has been expressed for cdma2000 evolution Air Interface Evolution (AIE) Technical Experts Meeting (TEM) for 3GPP2 Evolution was held during 10-11 March 2005 in Denver, CO, USA. AIE TEM workshop was intended to share the views of the future 3GPP2 Evolution. 10 Requirement and 11 Technical contributions were presented. Phased approaches for 3GPP2 evolution were proposed and discussed. This presentation summarizes overall proposed cdma2000 Evolution Objectives and phasing Approaches.

4 3 Proposed cdma2000 Evolution Objectives (1/2) Enhanced end user broadband wireless experience Support evolving MMD/IMS services Provide air interface aspects for advanced end to end QoS delivery Increase voice capacity over cdma2000 1x Support bandwidth allocations up to 20 MHz or more in 1.25 MHz blocks Increase peak data rates and system throughput capacity –Increase spectral efficiency –Improve cell coverage and increase range –Long-term targets for peak data rate FL : 100 Mbps ~ 1 Gbps RL : 50 Mbps ~ 100 Mbps Decrease system latency

6 5 Phasing Approaches Rationale: –To enhance peak data rate and system throughput capacity while leveraging existing investments and maintaining the backward compatibility –To enhance broadband wireless experience while maintaining market leadership Evolution Phase I –Increase system performance while maintaining backward compatibility for fast time-to-market Evolution Phase II –Dramatically enhance system performance to maintain market leadership over competing technologies

7 6 Phase I Evolution (1/3) Goals to achieve : –Maximize Return on Investment (ROI) by: Maintaining backward compatibility Reusing existing infrastructure equipment –Fast time-to-market to maintain market leadership Multi-carrier cdma2000 –Number of 1.25 MHz carriers, N, 1 <= N <= 15 –Both symmetric and asymmetric FL/RL assignments Minimum N = 1 for backward compatibility

D and HRPD)
