NEW YORK

It has 8.2 million inhabitants (it´s the biggest city of USA). Original name of city was New Amsterodam, because it belonged to the Dutch, but in 1664 Brits captured the city and they renamed it New York. Most of the city is situated on the islands of Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island The Hudson river flows through the city. The city is divided into 5 districts: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island

Manhattan It has 3 parts – Uptown, Midtown and Downtown Downtown is divided by Central park into 2 parts – Upper East Side, where are the most expensive houses, and Upper West side, where a lot of artists live. There was World Trade Center („Twins“), which was destroyed by terrorist attack on 11 st Septembre in In Midtown there is NY Times Building, a seat of NY Times Journal. On Manhattan there is also the seat of OSN or Wall Street, where is the seat of NY Stock Exchange.

Brooklyn A part of Brooklyn is Coney Island, where there are beaches like Brighton on Manhattan Beach. There is Brooklyn Bridge, which connects Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Bronx There are a stadium of NY Yankees or the ZOO (The biggest ZOO in USA) Queens US Open is held here every year. Staten Island There are a lot of parks.

Tourism Empire State Building It was completed in 1931 in art deco style. It has 102 floors and since 2001 it´s been the highest building in NY. Central park It covers 3.41 km ². People come here to relax, run or go for a picnic. Times squere It´s the centre of NY. Broadway It´s a street, where there are a lot of theatres. (On Manhattan)

5 th Avenue One of he most famous streets and the most expensive street in NY. There are a lot of shops like Gucci, Tiffany, Marc Jacobs... There is also Guggenheim museum. It´s a very interesting building. There are paintings of famous painters like Kansinsky, Marc Chagall, Vincent van Gogh or Manet. Statue of Liberty The statue is 46 m high and weighs 205 tons. In left hand it holds plates, which represent the declaration of independence. On the plates there is the date of the decl.of independ.: 4 th July Its crown with 7 flashes (like 7 continents) is the symbol of freedom. It has been in NY since 1886 and it´s a UNESCO monument.

Food For NY typical restaurants are street stalls. You can buy a pizza, hot dog, pretzel and so on. Gastronomy is very influenced by immigrants. So you can find lots of Chinese, Italien or Mexican restaurants. Of course there are fast foods – McDonalds, Burger King and so on. In NY the most used is public transport. NY City Subway is the largest metro system in the world. It has 468 stations, and most lines are open 24 hours. In Queens there are two airports: LaGuardia and JFK Airport. Transport

My opinion I love the city. It´s full of life, possibilities and fun. I would like to live here for a few years. I would go to run to Central park, for coffee I would go to Starbucks, I would to visit all monuments and I would go to shopping. But perharps I wouldn´t stay forever, because I don´t think it´s the best place for children.
