The Purpose and the Idea: Purpose: To build an elevator that can accept voice commands wirelessly. The Idea: To make the usage of an everyday elevator more accommodating in especially cramped situations and less of an ordeal in humility for those physically handicapped. 2

Major Components The System ◦Four Microcontroller Boards ◦Two to Four Wireless Modules ◦A Voice Recognition Module and Microphone The Model ◦A Frame ◦An elevator Room ◦A Floor Detection Sensor used for automatic calibration linked to a seven segment LED display ◦One Geared Stepper Motor 3

The Final Design 5 Main changes include: 1.Transformation from metal rods to wooden components 2.The addition of six floors for the sake of presentation 3.Installing larger support at the top for the motor.

Challenges of Project Identifying room lifting actuator: ◦Accuracy of DC motor is weak, no feedback, easy to control ◦Geared DC motor provides good holding torque, overshoots position ◦Bipolar stepper provides precise motion, too much control Calculating the torque required to move the room up and down, and hold it at fixed position. Weight was an issue. Synchronizing the stepper motor shaft rotations to stop the room precisely at the designated floors. 16

Challenges of Project Designing and Soldering the various circuits needed to run the system. Improving the acceptance of the Voice Recognition Module to accept more than one individual’s voice. Integrating all hardware and software components using a single transmission / single reception embedded system. 17

Accomplishments Developed a wireless communicating system. Acquired skills and knowledge about different types of motors, modules, and embedded systems. Constructed a simple prototype for demonstration. 19
