USGS Archive Collection Policy (A Draft) Stuart Doescher, USGS WGISS-17 May 2004 Tromso, Norway

Background USGS/EROS is a long term archive for the Dept of Interior The USGS/EROS Archive is the largest civilian remotely sensed and geospatial data archive in the U.S. The USGS /EROS Data Center works within the Geography Discipline to archive Land Remote Sensing, Cartographic, and Topographic Data Sets with a focus on providing these data through The National Map. The National Map

Background The USGS/EROS Data Center also works with the National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) to properly dispose of and transfer records to NARA. NARA is the permanent/long term archive for the United States Government and USGS/EDC.

The Next Steps Gain approval for the draft USGS Archive Collections Policy (19 March 2004) Continue to incorporate archival practices into the culture of USGS/EROS Data Center Continue to apply this culture in new work opportunities as best practices. Promote the USGS Archive Collection Policy in public forums and external groups for feedback.
