Graph Challenge Activity #2

If you multiply the x coordinates by 2, write in your journal and tell in what quadrant the new triangle would be?

Did you predict that it would stay in Quadrant III? Why did it move to the left?

If you double the X coordinates, will this new triangle move horizontally or vertically? Journal your response.

Discuss in class what happened when we doubled the X coordinate

If you double both the X and Y coordinates, what will be the new vertices points?

What happened? Write down everything you notice about the relationship between these two triangles?

Some possible responses: The triangles are similar though not congruent The new triangle is twice the size of the old one. They grew in equal proportions. The horizontal and vertical growth was equal. End of Activity
