The MSC.Software Simulation Data Management Initiative Boma Koko Senior Director

Introduction What our customers are saying They have defined a requirement for simulation data management (Business Problem Statement) PDM and other solutions do not address these requirements by themselves MSC.Software has a unique understanding of simulation tools and processes MSC.Software has established the SDM initiative to address these issues

Need for SDM 1960 2000 Years Data per Simulation Number of CAE Simulations Cost of Physical Prototyping 1960 2000 Years Workstations and Servers Mainframes Cost of CAE Simulation

Business Problem Statement CAE simulation needs correct, auditable input data - and generates copious output data. Accessing and compiling simulation information from disparate sources incurs substantial time (cost) penalties, and is fraught with inaccuracies. Design knowledge must be captured and managed for re-use. Knowledge needs to be accessible globally via the web. (‘Design anywhere, build anywhere’.)

Value of SDM Increased efficiency  simulation process improvement Improved access to appropriate source data Higher simulation throughput More time for engineering/innovating, less time for “bookkeeping” Repeatable and consistent simulation methods More reliable simulations because the process is less error prone Increased effectiveness  impact on PLM process Enhanced visibility and easy access to simulation results Enhanced collaboration, engineering decision and risk assessment support Simulation-based product development (driven by product performance and function)

The Role of SDM SCM PLM is the whole picture. CRM Each of PDM, ERP, SCM, CRM and SDM help facilitate this.
