Introduction Hi! That’s me…clean up pretty well, don’t I? My name is Adam Collins, and with this portfolio you’re about to read, I have completed my requirements for a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Lesley University. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana in 2000. Right out of college, I taught 5th Grade for five years at Midway Elementary in Alpharetta, Georgia. Needing a change of scenery, I am currently teaching Journalism at South Forsyth Middle School in Cumming, Georgia. As you might have noticed from the dashing picture of myself, I recently got married to Dr. Jennifer Mercante on November 5, 2005. (Yes, she’s a doctor, and makes more than I ever will.) I hope you enjoy flipping through the pages of my recent technological exploits in student assessment.

Conceptual Framework Ever since I began teaching, I’ve known the importance of integrating technology into my classroom. I have always felt that it is absolutely necessary for students to learn as much as they can about computer skills, while still gaining reading, writing, and math skills. As each generation of students becomes more technically savvy, it’s important that teachers learn to adapt to these students’ needs. I have always maintained a technologically balanced classroom, be it in a 5th grade science class, or now in a middle school journalism class, so that every student gets an opportunity to gain these important skills for the future. My students are almost always collaborating when working with technology. This allows students with different skills to learn from one another, and to create a classroom of trust. They work together on projects, self-assessing, and problem solving. Since these same students have grown up in a technologically advanced culture, I know that I have to keep up with everything as well. Many times, my students will show me a little trick, or an amazing website or program that I never knew about, and I know I’ll have to integrate it into a lesson. All of these great new technologies and gadgets for the classroom can only be put to good use if the teacher using them is well informed and well practiced with them. I want to be able to show my students the great advances that are out there, and maybe allow them to build upon those tools to give themselves a better future.

Artifacts Module 1-4: Table of Purposes and Users of Assessment Information Module 2-2: What is Worth Assessing? Module 2-3: Breaking Apart a Content Standard Module 3-1: Case Study in Assessment (Reflection) Module 4-2: Table of Specifications for Creating a Selected Response Assessment Module 4-3: Selected Response Quiz Module 5-1: Essay on Reasoning Module 6-2: Student Checklist Module 6-4: Rubricator Rubric (Reflection) Module 9-1: Table of Assessment Purposes

Future Goals I hope to apply all I’ve learned from Lesley University, and become an Instructional Technology Specialist in my county in the coming year. I hope to continue to improve my abilities and technical knowledge, as they apply to Educational Technology, as schools continue to adapt and grow with these advancements.
