Intermediate 1/2 Administration The Work Environment

Changes in the work environment  Flexible working practices – working practices have changed to suit our modern lifestyles.  Traditional 9-5 hours have been replaced with more flexible options.  Changes in society have led to a different type of work force –  More women returning to work after having children  More entrepreneurs setting up their own business  More part-time work on offer  IT developments means you can work away from the office

Part-time/Full-time  Part-time  Any job which is less than around 37 hours per week – eg 16 hours, or 2 days a week.  Allows people to look after families or study  Full-time  Working 37 hours per week, 5 days a week.

Flexi-time/Job Share  Flexi-time  Employees can choose when they work as long as the do the required hours  There are usually core hours when all employees have to be in at work eg 9 am to 3 pm  Job Share  When 2 people share one job  They split the hours between them eg Sam might work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – Alice might work Thursday, Friday.  Hours split to suit each individual – they are paid according to the hours they work  It is important they keep in touch with each other so there is continuity

Teleworking/Hot Desking  Teleworking  Employees able to work away from the office  Stay in touch via technology eg mobile, laptops  Hot Desking  With workers working away from the office they don’t need a permanent deskWE
