Up close and personal with the robotic dog! "The first decade of the 21st century will be dominated by robots" - Toshitada Doi, Corporate Executive Vice President, Sony. The "Robotic Virtual Pets" sub-category of the toy market jumped from $5 million to $159 million in one year. Sony claimed that AIBO could mimic free will and emotion. The robotic dog will answer to any name that you give him. Something cool about the robotic dog is that when you say “take a picture” it does it. The Aibo dog has a built in camera. With built-in voice recognition, AIBO could learn up to fifty words (later Aibo models could do one thousand words) and talk back to you in a special AIBO tonal language. At an astonishing two thousand dollards this wasn’t a cheap toy. In 2006 Sony ended the line of the advanced robot dog.Mary bellis which is the author of the article that is in the link, says that after playing with this toy for an hour it’s not hard to treat it as if it’s a living thing.

Sony Puts AIBO Robot Dog To Sleep While the news stunned many robot enthusiasts, the writing seemed to be on the wall. While the company updated the AIBO software and memory capabilities each year, the last major overhaul was almost two years ago; by raising the price every year, Sony appeared to be daring the US market to ignore it. The success stories of WowWee's Robosapien and Roboraptor and iRobot's Roomba robot vacuum also served to highlight the price chasm between them and AIBO's $2,000 robot and their sub-$300 and sub-$200 offerings, although AIBO was always the more powerful robot with more motors, flexibility and artificial intelligence. Some industry watchers expected the success of these consumer robots to prick up Sony's ears and perhaps encourage the company to roll out more frequent updates and, perhaps lower prices. Instead, Sony slowed down the pace of development and had been mum for months and what AIBO might do next. The success stories of WowWee's Robosapien and Roboraptor and iRobot's Roomba robot vacuum also served to highlight the price chasm between them and AIBO's $2,000 robot and their sub-$300 and sub-$200 offerings, although AIBO was always the more powerful robot with more motors, flexibility and artificial intelligence. the AIBOsoftwareRobosapienRoboraptorRoomba robot vacuumartificial intelligencehttp://

The Sony AIBO Entertainment Robot The centerpiece of AIBO is its intelligence. With the artificial intelligence mind, AIBO now has a personality. AIBO is capable of six feelings - happiness, sadness, fear, dislike, surprise, and anger. Its unique personality is developed with a combination of these unique instincts and feelings. By interacting with people, AIBO learn and grows. AIBO's mood and behavior changes with its environment. AIBO also has instincts to move around, to look for its toys, to satisfy its curiosity, to play and communicate with its owner, to recharge when its battery is low, and to wake up when its done sleeping.
