Physical Features Of the United States

Death Valley Death Valley is located in California (CA). It is a dry region and forms part of the southwestern portion of the Great Basin. The death valley receives very little rainfall and temperature varies in a range from 130 degrees F in the summer to a low 32 degrees F in the winter.

The most amazing occupant is a fish called Devils’ Hole pupfish. Death Valley Cont’d Death Valley is believed to have nearly 900 different species of plants existing, despite its harsh climate. A large number of desert insects, animal lizards, snakes, and rodents are also found here. The most amazing occupant is a fish called Devils’ Hole pupfish.

Great Basin The Great Basin is an area in North America where there is little water, and as a result, little wildlife. This made this region a difficult place to live. Great Basin National Park in Nevada is home to some of the world's oldest trees—bristlecone pines worn smooth by centuries of wind, sand, and ice. the region actually comprises not one but at least 90 basins, or valleys, and its rivers all flow inland—not to any ocean. Animals include Amphibians, Birds, Fish, Insects, Spiders, Reptiles, Mammals, and Cave Life

What is the Continental Divide? The Continental Divide, also called the Great Divide, is a natural boundary line separating waters that flow into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico from those that flow into the Pacific Ocean. The continental divide runs from northwestern Canada along the crest of the Rocky Mountains to New Mexico

Great Plains The Great Plains or High Plains are the elevated plains which lie east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States of America, covering the states of New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and North Dakota. The region is arid and generally characterized by rangeland or marginal farmland. About every 25 years the region is subject to drought and may be subject to devastating duststorms.

Gulf of Mexico The Gulf of Mexico, the ninth largest body of water in the world and referred to as the "Mediterranean of the Americas," is located at the southeastern corner of North America. The Gulf is bordered by the United States to the north (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas), five Mexican states to the west (Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan), and the island of Cuba to the southeast.

The Great Lakes Eight state touch the Great Lakes: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, and Ohio.  So remember that with the Great Lakes come the Great 8 States! The Great Lakes are home to a variety of different creatures.  Not only do animals live in the lakes, but many land creatures use the water for a place to get a drink and find a meal.  Here are some common creatures found in and around the Great Lakes. Saint Lawrence River One of the world's great rivers is the St. Lawrence. It is part of a giant seaway from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes.

Atlantic Coastal Plain A coastal plain refers to an area of land that is located near a body of water. The land itself is low lying and includes bayous, marshes, and swamps. The Atlantic coastal plain is the area the coastal area that extends for parts of New York down to Florida.
