Unit 10-Current Issues Topic- Economic Powers (China) Brandon Simon 5/18/11 World History Per. 8

Argument  Although there is government interference in the Chinese economy, their economy grows positively and productively.

The Force of Emerging Economic Powers (China)  When Mao had ruled, there were very little economic freedoms, so China was not a well known global trade partner  After Mao died, China started to make economic reforms such as foreign trade and investment  China, although a communist state, has many democratic economic polities  Both of these together helped China to become economically successful

Supporting Ideas  China has become a popular global trade partner since the late 1970s  China is extremely productive due to population and capital  China’s economy has brought urbanization, industrialization, and globalization

Facts  China has the second largest economy in the world  To improve trade, China opened Special Economic Zones (SEZs) along coasts  SEZs are similar to market like economies  China’s government encourages urban growth due to its large rural population  Machinery, technology, and infrastructure help raise China’s income and productivity  China has access to a large amount of natural resources

Chinese economic zones Major economic areas of China, known as SEZs are located on the coast because of trade (red circles).

Images Notice the front character? China has a large amount of workers to get the job done due to their large population.

Quiz Questions 1.) List 2 things China’s economy has brought 2.) What did China put along it’s coast to better their economy? Why do you think they put them on their coasts?
