Exploring the Microscope

Microscope: an instrument used to magnify small objects so that they can be seen much better than with your eye

The lens at the top of the microscope that you look into.  Usually 10X magnification.

The part of the microscope that connects the tube to the base.  When carrying a microscope, grab the arm with one hand and place your other hand under the base.

The flat plate where the slides are placed for observation.

Clips on the stage used to hold the slide in place.

This is the rough focus knob on the microscope This is the rough focus knob on the microscope.  You use it to move the objective lenses toward or away from the specimen

Fine Adjustment: This is the knob used to fine tune the focus on the specimen or to focus on specific parts of the specimen.  Use the coarse focus first, then use the fine focus.

The bottom support of the microscope.

The part of the microscope that holds the objective lenses.

Objective: The lens closest to the object.

Puts light on specimen being viewed. (mounted under the stage.)
