CURRENT PRACTICES TO REDUCE RESTRAINTS

Orange County Public Schools District Behavior Analyst Took a student with 10 or more restraints Provided individualized attention They were paired with another analyst (one familiar and one that was not) With the success they have expanded to 2 additional students

Orange County Public Schools District Wide CPI Currently trained 1545 OCPS Staff In 155 of 186 schools have a Crisis Response Team 15 schools have had their staff trained in Verbal only Techniques

Orange County Public Schools CPI Types of Training offered: Initial Traditional Refresher Bullying refresher Positive Behavior and Supports Refresher Trauma-informed Care Autism Spectrum Disorder Verbal Only school wide (We provide the verbal de- escalation strategies to entire school staff to assist in handling the most difficult Situations

Orange County Public Schools CPI Follow Up – A survey is sent to the participants 3 month mark – A review session is scheduled the third Wednesday of every month for all participants at their 6 month mark – All participants have to attend a refresher at their 12 month approval date to maintain approval

Orange County Public Schools Continued District Wide PCM – Currently trained 173 people – Only used in our intensive sites – Each one of our intensive sites has a monthly follow up with a PCM instructor CHAMPS – Currently have trained 19 schools – All schools who use CHAMPS have review day

Orange County Public Schools Specialized Training Behavior Specialist/Deans Training – Every other month on the 4th Wednesday – Trainings to increase the capacity of their knowledge and to give them trainings that they can take back E/BD Behavior Specialist/ Teacher Training – Every other month on the 4th Wednesday – Trainings to increase the capacity of their knowledge and to case review their most difficult students

Orange County Public Schools Specialized Training Behavior Tools for Parents – Specialized training for our E/BD Parents – Also have introduced it at some of our more difficult populations – PULSE Conference

Orange County Public Schools Specialized Training Mental Health Counselors – Mental Health 101 Conducted 6 trainings this year (District wide) Training provides a better understanding of specific mental health disorders and strategies and interventions for staff SEDNET – Typical and Troubled – Trauma
