morning star ( a bright PLANET, esp. Venus, seen in the eastern sky at sunrise ) What does evening star mean? (at sunset) What ’ s the brightest star in space in the morning?

Do you know what other things are in space? the sun the earth the moon the starry sky the spacecraft (Shenzhou 6 blasts) a manned spacecraft a space station

the Solar System ( the sun and the nine planets----the Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)

Identifying the things in space the stars : the planets: man-made objects: the satellites: the sun the Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto spacecraft/ spaceship, man-made satellites … the moon …

Group work:comparison the sizethe weightthe category the sun the Earth the moon What are the differences between the earth and the sun? How about the earth and the moon?

News Report:talk about Shenzhou 5 and 6 SZ-6 lands safely after successful mission BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The re- entry capsule of China's Shenzhou-6 spacecraft, carrying taikonauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng, landed on earth safely at 4:33 a.m. Monday following a successful five-day flight two years after China put the first Chinese national flag in space.

n Today Wu Bangguo, one of the state top leaders, welcomed the astronauts himself and said it was the most important time in China ’ s space technology development and its space experiments with human. Astronauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng were given a clean bill of health after the re- entry capsule of their Shenzhou VI spacecraft back to Earth on a parachute, ending up in Inner Mongolia. They landed just one kilometer away from the present spot after a 115-hour-and-32- minute spaceflight, which was more than five times that of China ’ first manned spaceflight two years ago.

Some questions: 1.When did Chinese send up Shenzhou 5 and 6? 2.Where did Shenzhou 6 land? 3.How many Chinese have already been into space since Shenzhou 5? 4.How long was the spaceflight for Shenzhou 6 ? What about Shenzhou 5? 5.Who was sent into space in Shenzhou 6? Are Chinese very proud of them? Why?

Discussion in groups: Why do people send up man- made satellites or spacecraft into space? If you are interested in space and you want to be a scientist on space, what should you do now?
