Przewalski horses in Lozère, by Ludivine Where the vultures can be seen Where the wisents from Poland can be seen Where the wolves can be seen Where the Przwalski horses from Mongolia can be seen

Endangered species hosted in Lozère by Ludivine This horse was named after Colonel Przewalski after an expedition in1879 in Mongolia. The Przewalski horse has never been domesticatedIt is the last surviving wild horse in the world. Only 1000 of them are kept in semi captivity in the world at the moment. The conservation project on the Causse Méjean in Lozère is an attmpt to encourage breeding in semi-captivity with the ultimate aim of re-introducing these horses back into the complete wild in theeir native Mongolia. There are no guided tours to see them but if you are visiting the Gorges of the Tarn area, stop to watch those small, prehistoric wild horses running over the Causse: this is a beautiful scene thaat you will never forget.

** The Przewalski horse (Equus ferus przewalskii has disappeared from its wild state. ** It survived thanks to the zoos. It is considered as one of the most endangerd animal in the world. ** In 1990 Lozère was chosen to host a herd of those horses in France, due to the similarities with their home country: Mongolia. ** The Przewalski horse has proved to adapt to the biodiversity of our region. ** In 2003 there were over 50 horses. ** In horses were reintroduced in Mongolia. A success.
