Welcome to Multimedia!

“Multimedia is for people who gladly take up new challenges and are unafraid of learning curves and intensely creative work.” - Tay Vaughn

Definition of Multimedia Purpose of media is to communicate Interaction (involvement & interface) –Interactivity & communication –“Tell me I forget, Show me I remember, Involve me and I learn” Multiple Medium(s) (the five/six senses) (sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell, time)

What is Multimedia? Text Graphics/Pictures Animations Sound/Audio Video There are 5 elements in multimedia:

“When you weave together the sensual elements of multimedia: Dazzling pictures and animations, engaging sounds, compelling video clips- you can electrify the thought and action centers of people’s minds.”

Our goal is to understand and know how to implement the mediums of Multimedia. Some of you will enjoy certain technologies better than others because everyone is different and has their favorite area. We have to move fast to be able to cover all the areas.

“The implementation of multimedia capabilities in computers is just the latest episode in a long series: cave painting, hand-crafted manuscripts, the printing press, radio and television. These advances reflect the innate desire of man to create outlets for creative expression, to use technology and imagination to gain empowerment and freedom for ideas”. - from a presentation to the European Software Publishers by the Director of the Multimedia PC Council

Multimedia developers come from all corners of the computer, art literary, engineering, film and audio worlds.

“The mere possession of the equipment does not make one into a videographer, film editor, set designer, scriptwriter, audio engineer, animator, or programmer. Some people do possess all of the innate talents required to produce decent multimedia, but few have mastered all the skills required to bring a major project to fruition. More typically, world-class productions are realized through the teamwork of a variety of talented people with specialized experience.
