Indoor Soccer Rules Spring 2012

The games will consist of two 20 min halves making the game a length of 40 minutes. There will be a 5 minute half time. The extra 15 minutes in between games will allow the teams to warm up and get ready to play.

The team will consist of 7 players (three men and three women + the goalkeeper) on the court. The minimum amount of players needed to still be eligible to play is 6. Any player can play any position. Substitutions are allowed, but substitutes may not enter onto the field unless the ref directs them to come into the game. The ball can hit any of the walls and still be playable. If the ball goes up onto the track or hits the ceiling, play is stopped, and the opposing team will be awarded a free kick at the location where the ball left the gym or made contact with the ceiling.

Standard contact rules generally apply. Ball contact must be made during a play on the ball, NO charging with hands or elbows, and NO charging from behind. NO slide tackling is allowed while playing indoor soccer to decrease the risk of injury. Because we are playing indoor soccer there will be no offside's because the playing field is so small. No ball can be played by the goalie with his hands or feet beyond the midfield line without touching another person on the field. No ball may be kicked from one end of the court to the other without a touch by an opponent or team member.

Ties will be broken by a shoot out. Each team will pick five players to take a penalty kick, 3 of one gender and 2 of the other. Which ever team makes the most of 5 attempts will be the winner.

 A goal may be scored directly from a kick off.  When restarting after half time the team who did not kick-off to start the game, will kick-off to start the second half.  A direct free kick will be awarded to the opposing team to the infraction of the following offenses.  Deliberately kicking or attempting to kick an opponent  Deliberately tripping an opponent  Deliberately jumping at an opponent  Deliberately charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner  Deliberately charging an opponent from behind  Holding an opponent  Pushing an opponent  Deliberately touching the ball with hand or arm. The goalkeeper is the only one who can touch the ball with hands or arms within their box.

An indirect free kick shall be awarded to the offended team for the spot nearest the infraction for the following offenses: 1.Acting in a manner considered dangerous by the referee, i.e. “dangerous play.” 2.“Obstruction” of the play 3.The goalkeeper has six seconds in which to release the ball into play. He/she may roll, bounce it, or throw it into the air, and catch the ball. 4.The goalkeeper shall not deliberately touch or throw the ball and then touch it again with his/her hands before it has been played or touched by another player. 5.As the kicker on a kick-off, free kick, corner kick, or goal kick, cannot play the ball until it has been touched by another player. 6.Intentionally obstructing the opposing goalkeeper in an attempt to prevent him or her from putting the ball into play.

All penalty kicks, except in an overtime shoot-out, can be taken by either male or female. NO more than 2 members of the SDSU Soccer Club are allowed to play (be on the roster) for an intramural soccer team. Only protests concerning eligibility will be considered after the conclusion of a contest or game, and this protest must be in the Recreation Programs Office by noon the day following the contest or game.

Yellow Cards (cautions): Fouls resulting in a Yellow Card for the offending player include: 1. Un-sportsmanship behavior 2. Showing ones opinion by word or behavior 3. Persistently breaking the rules of the game 4. Delay of the game (including by the goal keeper) 5. Entering or re-entering the field of play without permission of the referee(s)

Red Cards (sendoffs): Fouls resulting in a Red Card for the offending player include: 1. Receiving a second yellow card (caution) in a game 2. Serious foul play or violent conduct 3. Spitting at an opponent or any other person 4. Using severely offensive, insulting, or abusive language or gestures 5. Denying the opposing team an obvious goal scoring opportunity by intentional handling the ball (except by the goalkeeper within his/her penalty area) If anyone gets a red card they will be kicked out of the game and receive an unacceptable sportsmanship rating for their team and the manager and offending player will be required to meet with our staff before the team and player will be allowed to play again.

Field of Play The below diagram is very similar to the SDSU set up for Indoor Soccer. Team bench areas will be the steps and the ramp on the south side of the gym area. These are the only areas within the gym floors that will be designated out-of- play. No spectators in the team bench areas. Spectators must stay up in the Fitness Area behind the glass surrounding the gym area! Ramp

Extra Information At any point in the game if a team is up by ten goals the game will end. Make sure that everyone brings their ID when checking in otherwise you will not be allowed to play!!! ~All notifications will be posted on IMLEAGES.COM and The SDSU Intramural Facebook Page~ Have A Great Season!
