Working group updates One quarterly meeting of the Working group Revision of the working group Terms of References Elaboration of a questionnaire which helped to assess the causes of less involvement and gathering information to improve the working group TOR

Updates Con’t Improve the WG members involvement Involvement in literacy day organizations Study visit to ECCD Centers in Burera District

Visit to Kiboga ECCD/ Burera

What did we learn Parents have played a great role in the running of the ECCD because they regularly attend parents meetings which are held to sensitize them about benefits of early education.

Lesson learnt con’ t There is a strong partnership between the school and local authorities who sensitize parents in the community of the benefits of sending their children to the school early in life

Lesson learnt Parents are also provided with updates on the school operations including the IGA that was set up by the parents and the school to support the education of the children. From the profits of the IGA, the teachers, care givers and helpers are able to receive a salary on monthly basis. The parents closely monitor the school project.

Challenges Less involvement of some WG members persist District publications of what the organization are doing when it is not planned. Some parents don’t have the same understanding on their roles and responsibilities to support children’ education.

Recommendations Follow up around inactive working group members( phone calls, visit if possible) Update the working members list on the website Revise the TOR according to the questionnaire’s findings for the members who responded Volunteers, PTCs, Care givers need trainings to improve their competencies to support parents. Continue to advocate for the Ministerial order to be signed( PTC)
