Color is one of the elements of design used to create clothing, artwork, furniture, toys, homes, and offices. Chapter 10 page 158

The Message of Color Color and Symbols: Color and Tempertature: Red means STOP, yellow means CAUTION, and green means GO! Color and Tempertature: Red, orange, and yellow look like sunlight and fire; therefore they are warm colors. Blues, greens, and violets represent cool temperatures.

Color and Movement: Color and Mood: Colors can create illusions of movement. Warm colors tend to advance, or move toward you. Cool colors tend to recede, or move away from you. Color and Mood: You may reach for a red or yellow sweater on a dreary day to help brighten your mood. Blues, violets, and greens give a sense of calm and relaxation.

Color Schemes A color scheme is the way you use a color or combination of colors when planning an outfit or decorating a room. The following slides represent various color schemes

Monochromatic Color Scheme Shades and Tints of one color.

Analogous Color Scheme A color scheme that uses colors that are right beside each other on the color wheel.

Complementary Color Scheme Combining two colors that are direct opposites on the color wheel. Examples: orange/blue, green/red, and violet/yellow

Split-Complementary Color Scheme One color used with the two colors on either side of its direct complement. Example: Orange, blue green, and blue violet.

Triad Color Scheme Any 3 colors equal distance from each other on the color wheel.

Accented Neutral Color Schemes Since neutrals have no color, they combine well with other hues. When a color is matched with white, black, or gray, it is considered an accented neutral color scheme.
