WALKING THROUGH CHILD STUDY

What is the Child Study Committee? A committee that enables school personnel, and non school personnel, as appropriate, to meet the needs of individual children who are having difficulty in the educational setting.

The committee reviews existing data to make recommendations to meet children’s needs. They may refer children for evaluation for special education and related services

Who makes up the Committee School Principal or designee The person who referred the child At least one teacher At least on specialist

Making a Referral When a disability is suspected the following persons may submit an oral or written referral the Child Study Committee Parent Teacher Another Referring Source

How to Make a Referral Contact the chairman of the Child Study Team. Fill out appropriate forms. Referral form Classroom observation form

The Child Study Committee will meet within 10 days to review existing data and identify and recommend strategies to address student’s learning, behavior, communication, or development. The Committee may also request an evaluation for Special Education Services.
