Year 2 Curriculum Information Traditional Tales and Pablo Picasso Helpful Home Activities  Help your child improve their reading by spending ten minutes reading and talking about books together each night. Use the questions on the new reading bookmarks to help with question ideas.  Support your child’s understands of number by practising multiplication tables. Work on knowing these from memory and being able to apply them to a range of questions.  To gather information on Pablo Picasso’s life and work. This will help develop their knowledge on the artist and what techniques he uses

Literacy In our literacy lesson’s the children will be looking at narrative writing through traditional tales. This will consist of reading together a range of fairy tales stories and discussing the main features and focus of the story. The children will be using their knowledge to recount, re-write and create their own fairy tale, as well as role playing the different stories. Numeracy Developing our ability to process and represent data in different ways. This will be done via various methods including Carroll diagrams, which can be used to separate data based on two variables. The children will also be encouraged to carry out their own investigations and represent the data appropriately. The children will also continue to develop their knowledge of the number system including adding and subtracting one digit numbers to two digit numbers. We will also expand on previous fractions teachings. ICT In ICT we will be looking at using computers for researching musicians and artists, to then create character profiles. The children will also record role play activities and create their own digital fairy tales, French In French this half term we will be learning the colour names. The children will learn how to “sing a rainbow” in French, and also be able to say what their favourite colour is. Art and Design Our Art and deign topic will look at Pablo Picasso’s work and his techniques. The children will then use these techniques to create their own pieces of Picasso style art work to display in our classroom. History Our work in history will link very closely to both Art and music this term. The children will be looking at how art has changed throughout the 20 th century and the influence it has on today’s society. The children will also discover the history of classical music particular work from Beethoven and Mozart. Music Our work in music will focus closely on classical music. The children will learn information about different composer and their work. The children will also compose their own piece of music for a fairy tale movie scene, using different pitch, tempo and rhyme to create tension. Social and Emotional During circle times and PSHE lessons we will be looking at ‘Good to be Me’. The children will have the opportunity to discuss what they are good at and also describe what other children in the class are good at. Physical Education For the first two weeks the children will focus on building up basic swimming skills and enhancing these skills. During our games lesson the children will be building on basic catching and throwing skills which will be applied to playing cricket. Religious Education The Pentecost is our first topic this half term. In this, we look at the importance of passing on messages and spreading the gospel message. Following this, we will focus ‘Reconciliation’ which looks at the ability to reach out and repairing what has been damaged. Learning the importance of forgiveness. Traditional Tales and Pablo Picasso
