DEFORESTATION What is deforestation , what causes deforestation, and what effect does it have on the people of Africa?

What is deforestation? Deforestation is the clearing of forests by human activity, such as logging or the burning of trees to clear land for farming or grazing.

What causes deforestation? HUMANS!!!!! Cutting trees and burning forests for farmland

Why cut down all the trees? For Firewood/Charcoal to Cook With For Building Materials To Clear Land for Farms/Homes

How does deforestation effect the people of Africa? The disappearance of trees from an area affects air quality, increases soil erosion, and increases chances for desertification and flooding.

How does deforestation effect Africa’s wildlife? The permanent removal of trees from an area destroys the habitat of forest animals (such as apes, birds, amphibians, a variety of insects, etc)

How can humans stop deforestation? No longer clear cut forests Limit slash and burn agriculture Replant trees with areas where trees have been removed Use less timber-related products

How does deforestation in Africa compare to other continents? The rate of deforestation is twice that of any other continent.
