Talent 21 Acid Rain Experiment Your Name: Group Members: Period:

Ask a Question  During this lab we…(explain what your group did)- During this lab we planted sunflower seeds and watered them with acid rain or regular water  What we wanted to find out…(what was the main question for this lab?)- We wanted to find out how acid rain affects plants and the environment.

Control vs. Variable State your hypothesis  In this slide you are to write whether your group was a control group or an experimental group. –experimental group/used 10% vinegar.  State your hypothesis (I hypothesize…My hypothesis…)My hypothesize was that the plant will not be able to grow because the acid water will prevent it.

Data Date dry wt. g. wet wt. g. Differen ceheight cm 4/17/ /18/ /19/ /22/ /23/ /24/ /25/ /25/ /29/ /1/ /2/ /3/ /4/

Data Interpretation  What happened during your experiment?  Think about: What could have affected your data (amount/type of water, sunlight, seed, etc). – Because we used acid water and our plant still grew, it means we got a good seed, so if we used regular water it would have grown even bigger. Also we put our plant in front of a window so it got a lot of sunlight.  Explain your graph-Give a three to five sentence explanation of your data. –My data has 5 topics, and they are: the date, the weight before water, the weight after water, the difference between weights, and the height of the plant. We collected data everyday besides weekends. For my other graph it shows the increases and decreases of my data.

State your Conclusion  My hypothesis that stated…was (correct/incorrect). Why do you think this happened? My hypothesis that stated, the plant will not be able to grow because the acid water will prevent it, was incorrect. The plant did grow even though we used acid water. I think the plant did grow because we had a good seed, and gave it sunlight.  What was something you learned from this experiment? Something I learned from this experiment is how to properly care for a plant.  How would you alter this experiment for future use? I could make a garden and that would be helping the environment.
