Activity 2 – Perspectives on Engineering Learning outcomes: An understanding of the definitions of engineering within the global context Ability to articulate engineering in light of the terms ‘sustainable’, ‘global’ and ‘development’ being intrinsically linked to engineering

Activity 2 – Perspectives on Engineering Activity instructions: You have 5 minutes to define the word/concept of ‘Engineering’. Use the flip chart paper to help you discuss ideas.

Activity 2 – Perspectives on Engineering Activity instructions: You have 5 minutes to define the word/concept of ‘Engineering’. Use the flip chart paper to help you discuss ideas. You have 5 minutes to define the word/concept of ‘Sustainable’, ‘Global’ or ‘Development’.

Use the flip chart paper to help you discuss ideas. Now look at the definition that you have for Global/Sustainable/Development and the definition you have for Engineering and in 5 minutes discuss: – Where the definitions align – Where the definitions are in conflict – Discuss whether these alignments/conflicts should result in a change to their definition of ‘Engineering’ – Are ‘Global’, ‘Sustainable’ and ‘Development’ inherent in the definition of Engineering in the modern day context?

Activity 2 – Perspectives on Engineering Activity instructions: Final minute of discussion! Agree the following for your spokesperson to feedback to the plenary: – In brief the definition of Engineering you came up with – In brief the definition of Global/Sustainable/Development you came up with – In brief the results of your final discussion around the definition of Engineering and reflections on the question posed.
