Colossians 2:9-12

Introduction The Worthy Walk In various places in the NT the Christian life is called a walk. Not a run, a sprint, or crawl; but it is called a walk because that is what most people can do. What is involved in this walk?

The Worthy Walk Walk… “in newness of life.” See Romans 6:4. 1.Our new walk begins at baptism. 2.The old self, walking in the way of the world is crucified, no longer to be our walking way.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “not as the Gentiles.” See Ephesians 4:17. 1.Our walk is characterized by a new way of thinking and looking at life. 2.Our walk will look different than the way the world walks (lives).

The Worthy Walk Walk… “worthy of our calling.” See Ephesians 4:1. 1.We have been called to a higher standard of excellence. 2.Christ is our example of how to walk (live) in all our relationships.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “as children of light.” See Ephesians 5:8. 1.Your walk should be one that brightens the lives of others. 2.Your walk should be an illustration of how life is to be lived.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “honestly.” See Romans 13:13. 1.No matter the situation your life (walk) will be of proper code. 2.Even when others revert to sinful ways, your walk will be unaffected.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “by faith.” See 2Corinthians 5:7. 1.We walk looking for the eternal reward that comes after this life. 2.We know it is better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord, so we live like that!

The Worthy Walk Walk… “in the Spirit.” See Galatians 5:25. 1.We walk according to the teaching of the Spirit--the word of God. 2.We allow the indwelling Spirit to encourage and help us each day.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “by the same rule.” See Philippians 3:16. 1.We have different talents but we all walk by the same code, law, and covenant. 2.There is no turning back, what works in Christ, always works in Christ, keep walking!

The Worthy Walk Walk… “worthy of the Lord.” See Colossians 1:10. 1.Our walk is worthy of Christ, so we bear fruit in every good thing we do. 2.Our walk teaches us that what God has said about life is true and we learn how to truly live!

The Worthy Walk Walk… “in love.” See Ephesians 5:2. 1.Is your life (walk) something that other people are drawn to? Or repulsed by? 2.Love is greater than faith and hope, may our lives be characterized by love for God and others.

The Worthy Walk Walk… “in the light.” See 1John 1:7. 1.Keep walking as best you can--this gives the blessing of continual forgiveness of sin. 2.Too many people talk the talk, but never walk the walk--you walk!

The Worthy Walk THE WORTHY WALK DESCRIBED The Greek word for worthy is axios which means fit. As used in Rev. 3:4 it means that by God’s grace, Christians have become fit, worthy partakers of the inheritance. Part of being fit is Col. 1:10-12.

The Worthy Walk In Summary: 1.Walk… “in newness of life.” 2.Walk… “not as the Gentiles.” 3.Walk… “worthy of our calling.” 4.Walk… “as children of light.” 5.Walk… “honestly.” 6.Walk… “by faith.” 7.Walk… “in the Spirit.” 8.Walk… “by the same rule.” 9.Walk… “worthy of the Lord.” 10.Walk… “in love.” 11.Walk… “in the light.”

The Worthy Walk THE WORTHY WALK DESCRIBED I’m glad that Christianity is not a sprint! It is a long race, which is won by walking! Who is ready for this walk? Are you fit in God’s eyes?
