Volcanoes By Maeve P6

What I Know About Volcanoes When volcanoes are lying asleep that means they are dormant Just because a volcano didn’t erupt in years doesn’t mean it won’t erupt in the future After most volcanoes there is an ash cloud Signs of a volcano erupting – loud noises and loads of smoke The volcano that destroyed Pompeii in 79AD is Mount Vesuvius

Facts About Mount Vesuvius Mount Vesuvius hadn’t erupted for 1800 years It was unusual because there was no lava involved It was most deadly because it hadn’t erupted in a very long time and the people didn’t know it was a volcano Lots and lots of ash and pumpice covered the whole town After 2000 years archaeologists dug up the town Back then people didn’t know about volcanoes The eruption of 79AD only lasted for 24 hours

Facts About Pompeii It is in Italy It is now a lot different than what it was ages ago It is in the bottom of Italy It was rediscovered in the 17th Century After the volcano erupted it was lost for over 1500 years.

Every Day life in Pompeii In Pompeii their everyday life is a lot different than ours. At 11am everyday they have a meal called luncheon. It’s just like our lunch bout everyday they have the same things – bread, salad, olives, cheese, fruit, nuts and cold meat. After they have their luncheon they the have a nap called a siesta even the children come home from school to have a 2-3 hour break, and after return back to finish their school day.

A Roman’s House A Roman’s house is a lot different than ours too . Romans who didn’t have a lot of money lived at a lower level then others. There were a lot of people that lived like than in Pompeii, they live in flats or apartments whilst wealthier people live in very big houses. Most Romans don’t have any furniture whilst the richer people do. Wealthy people have a lot more than poor people. A lot of Romans share houses there is a lot of people in one house. Richer people have houses with just their family living there. Some people would love to live like that.

Disaster in Pompeii Long, long ago in the year 79 AD a very unusual volcano erupted. Mount Vesuvius. It was very serious. There was no lava involved, just volcanic ash and rock. You probably think it just covered Pompeii but it completely covered Herculaneum as well. They were both forgotten about after the disaster. The actual eruption only lasted 24 hours which is short for a volcano. Nobody knew it was happening the whole time and went about their daily business until it was too late.
