agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency GEO welcomes FP7 Constanta, Romania 15th September 2006 Dr. Florin Serban Romanian Space Agency

LUCIUS – National Land Use Land Cover Network and INSPAM – Geospatial Data Infrastructure for Environment Protection ROSA initiatives for GEO development in Romania

agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency Contents Role of Romania and implication of ROSA in regional development of GEO Our vision on GEO The two projects Main work packages and status (LUCIUS) Main work packages and status (INSPAM) Main expected results

agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency Role of ROSA in regional development of GEO activities Due to its geographic position Romania can play an important role in GEO ROSA is the national administrator of Aerospatial, Security, CEEX – Aeronautics and Space, CEEX – Space and Security R&D programs – more than 50 projects covering GEO related themes (e.g. 25 in Aerospatial program) and has an excellent view on GMES community Involvement in various European and international R&D projects Initiative taken in 2005 when many proposals have been submitted to CEEX (2005 and 2006) – success rate > 90% - LUCIUS and INSPAM – contracts signed in October 2005

agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency Our vision on GMES - GEO Integration of space and in-situ observations for enabling user driven / defined services offering reliable and timely information on security and environment in an operational way to support policy making Expertise and applied research work is needed to exploit existing results and mature means for enabling better exploitation EO capacity to serve user needs Data and services display, access and use rights is an important issue addressed at European level by INSPIRE Raise public awarness on GMES - GEO importance and potential impact

agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency The two projects 3 years execution schemes, CEEX complex projects, Budget cca EUR for the two projects, ROSA – main contractor and consortium leader LUCIUS: main objective of the project is to exploit experience acquired by consortium members and build a network providing the scientific and technological regional support for the development of GMES applications through institutional development and capacity building in geospatial data (space and in-situ) acquisition, processing and management INSPAM: main objective of the project is to initiate and develop an interoperable framework able to contribute to establishing a national spatial data infrastructure following the European initiatives in this domain (GMES, INSPIRE, ORCHESTRA etc.)

agentia spatiala romana - romanian space agency Consortium members Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) – consortium leader Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAICI) Danube Delta National R&D Institute (INCDD) Forestry Research and Management Institute (ICAS) National Hydrology and Water Management Institute (INHGA) National Authority for Meteorology (ANM) Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Romanian Academy (ICIA) Romanian Agency for Standardization (ASRO)
