SSNB 2015 Canada Games

BUILDING the TEAM a year out From PRINCE GEORGE, BC 2015

TEAM NB What level of COMMITMENT/Determination is required to be on a NB CANADA GAMES TEAM ? DO YOU have any influence on the outcome / Outcomes of the TEAM ? Are you ready to be a DIFFERENCE Maker ?

TEAM NB To be a difference maker you have to understand true DETERMINATION Determination is tackling a task, that seems insurmountable too you - But having the sticktooitiveness to “getter done” - one step at a time.

TEAM NB To be a difference maker you have to understand what DETERMINATION means.

TEAM NB Getting these done required WHAT from a group of people ? WE Are not asking for that much !

TEAM NB "The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination.” Tommy Lasorda “ Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try ” “ Little by Little : “ A year from now you may wish you had started today ” one walks far”

TEAM NB The Best thing you can do for yourself this summer is get a good case of D e t e r m i n a t i o n. There will be NOTHING that will get you closer to your goal of going to PG 2015 than being DETERMINED in ALL ASPECTS of your sport. SYSTEMS Training AC/ AP/ LC/ LP and Speed Need required intensities to get adaptive response Strength Recovery rest & Rest Hydration SleepNutrition Mental skills Technical

TEAM NB to be Determined we also need to be ORGANIZED Plan your days accordingly. You will and must have other things in your daily life. BUT your PRIORITY this summer is to take care of these TRAINING essentials - and then add on other things. Training AC/ AP/ LC/ LP and Speed Strength Recovery rest & Rest Hydration Sleep Nutrition common sense Technical Nutrition Hydration Mental skills Life in general

TEAM NB Developing the mind set to train properly and consistently In your teenage years will be the hardest thing you have done. Teenagers tend to give others credit and tend to take credit away from themselves. You have to learn to give yourself the opportunity to learn to be your best. - to train accordingly and live accordingly.

TEAM NB which one do you think is most important ? And WHY ? SYSTEMS Training AC/ AP/ LC/ LP and Speed Need required intensities to get adaptive response StrengthRecovery rest & Rest Hydration Sleep Nutrition Mental skills Technical

TEAM NB according to Sports Science – the 2 Most over looked are ??? SYSTEMS Training AC/ AP/ LC/ LP and Speed Need required intensities to get adaptive response StrengthRecovery rest & Rest Hydration Sleep Nutrition Mental skills Technical

TEAM NB

TEAM NB comprises a group of people linked in a common purpose. A group by itself - does not necessarily constitute a TEAM ! A TEAM

TEAM NB Building a TEAM : The process of team building includes, 3. identifying the inhibitors to working as a TEAM And removing or overcoming them 2. building ownership across the team 1. clarifying the goal(s)

TEAM NB To assess itself a GOOD TEAM seeks feedback to find out both: - its current weakness - its current strengths as a team - understands it Level of opposition

TEAM NB To improve its current performance- a team uses feedback in order to: identify any gap between the TEAM’s desired state and the actual state at PRESENT! Design, if needed, a gap-closure strategy that reflects the timeframe for the TEAM!

TEAM NB the Nature of Humans has always been, "What’s in it for us ! ” rather than the approach we need building a TEAM "What’s in it for me ! "

TEAM NB TEAMWORK : involves- Many people cannot buy into this concept, Because they have not learned to be TEAM PLAYERS. s a c r i f i c e s s h a r i n g o f s u c c e s s e s a c c e p t i n g t h e r e s p o n s i b i l i t y s h a r i n g t h e d i s a p p o i n t m e n t T e a m - w o r k e t h i c Etc. ! That is why MOST TEAMS DO NOT HAVE SUCCESS !

TEAM NB TEAMWORK :  When you try for a TEAM –  YOU have no guarantee of making the TEAM.  BUT ! The greater your effort to make the team – the better the quality of the TEAM that is eventually formed.  speed skating teams are only as strong as their weakest skater in the relays & pursuits.

TEAM NB Remember the acronym: T.E.A.M.? T ogether E veryone A chieves M ore T E A M N B

TEAM NB To obtain extraordinary results : A Team MUST be more than a collection of people working together.

TEAM NB TEAM NB MUST have – 1. unified sense of purpose 2. commitment to team values & work ethic 3. collective desire to achieve to their potential 4. Personal accountability to one’s self & one’s TEAM and the trust their TEAMMATES are doing the same.

TEAM NB 1. Do we need to clarify the goal(s) ? Are their things we need to do as a GROUP ? 2. Identify the potential TEAM ? We can’t do this until fall - But we can build ownership across the GROUP ?

TEAM NB We can come up with oh so many reasons why we can’t do this ! UNACCEPTABLE ! - If you want to be part of a winning team in PG HOWEVER: That is YOU have to create YOUR Management plan to accommodate your development for the TEAM.

TEAM NB Is there a gap between the TEAM’s desired level of success and the actual state of the TEAM(s) at PRESENT ? What would be a gap-closure strategy that reflects the timeframe for the 2015 TEAM ?

TEAM NB TEAM OWNERSHIP for PG 2015 ! This venture is NOT just about YOU and what you want ! This venture is about what WE can achieve as a group working TOGETHER toward the same Goals.

TEAM NB This TEAM - Will be what YOU as individuals make it. IF YOU want to make it a memorable experience - it comes with all the responsibility to : The ProvinceSSNB Your Club Your Parent$ Your Coaches Your TEAM MATES YOUR-SELF !

TEAM NB Let’s see WHAT WE can achieve together ! & What Can I do for the TEAM ? The mind frame For TEAM NB Participants should be.

TEAM NB Don’t panic - relax - there is light at the end of the Tunnel !

TEAM NB

TEAM NB There is a required order to everything

TEAM NB Determination by another name

TEAM NB TENACITY : determined / stubborn: tending to stick firmly to a plan, without changing or doubting it

TEAM NB There are many different ways to train to achieve success. Bouncing around between multiple training plans by different coaches is not one of them. Stick to one ! Do them at the required Intensity. That is the !
