Why Standards in Technology? No Child Left Behind Technology Literacy requirement Computer and Multimedia Literacy Information Literacy Technological Literacy The Ohio Standards in Technology provides teachers with a set of clear, rigorous expectations for what all students should know and be able to do.

How should these standards be implemented? “The Technology academic standards can be interwoven into each curricular discipline. The purpose of integrating technology is to help students make realistic connections between what they learn in each content area and the real world.”

Standard 1 Nature of Technology Students develop an understanding of technology, its characteristics, scope, core concepts, and relationships between technologies and other fields.

Standard 2 Technology and Society Interaction Students recognize interactions among society, the environment and technology, and understanding technology’s relationship with history. Consideration of these concepts forms a foundation for engaging in responsible and ethical use of technology.

Standard 3 Technology for Productivity Applications Students learn the operations of technology through the usage of technology and productivity tools.

Standard 4 Technology and Communication Applications Students use an array of technologies to communicate with multiple audiences, acquire and disseminate information and enhance learning.

Standard 5 Technology and Information Literacy Students engage in information literacy strategies, use the Internet, technology tools, and resources, and apply information- management skills to answer questions and expand knowledge.

Standard 6 Design Students apply a number of problem- solving strategies demonstrating the nature of design, the role of engineering and the role of assessment.

Standard 7 Designed World Students understand how the physical, informational, and bio-related technological systems of the designed world are brought about by the design process. Critical to this will be student’s understanding of their role in the designed world: its processes, products, standards, services, history, impact, issues,and career connections.

The 1 st Grade student should be able to: Standard 1: Distinguish between natural & human made. Identify & describe a technological system. Identify school-wide technology devices. Standard 2: Identify tools and machines that can be helpful and/or harmful. Describe the reasons for doing things or behaving in ways that protect the environment. Describe or list ways technology has changed the way people live & work Standard 3: Identify & use computer & multimedia technology & know the terms used to describe it. Recall common terms, facts, & basic concepts relative to technology. Describe, identify, & demonstrate appropriate systematic planning strategies in order to complete a task. Describe how problems lead to invention and innovation. Standard 2: Discuss how making products meet our needs and wants. Classify & differentiate among materials that can be recycled/used. Standard 3: Use correct terminology when talking about computers & multimedia technology. Use a variety of computer and multimedia technology resources for directed learning activities.

The 2 nd Grade student should be able to: Demonstrate proper care of computer & multimedia technology. Identify & use input/output devices (scanner, digital camera).
