WHAT DO YOU THINK CAUSES MOST FIGHTS???

WHAT IS A SCHISM???

 Definition: A separation or division into separate parts in a religion.

Warm up  With the people around you talk quietly and write in your notebooks 2 religions you know that have conflicts with other religions or religions that have had a schism.

Sunni The Sunni believe that any truly religious Muslim can become a caliph. The Sunni have scholars and religious people who discuss the leadership of Islam.

The Sunni where actually the people who opposed to Shiites, they weren't a branch at first.

Shiite  The Shiites or Shias believe that the first Caliph should have been Ali and that the caliphate should have gone down to his descendants.  The Shiites pray differently that the sunni and believe on one religious figure (similar to the Pope)

SHIITES

Cause of the Schism  When Muhammad died, there was a conflict about how would be his successor.  The Shias believe that Ali should have been the caliph, but tree others were chosen before him.  Ali was the fourth caliph but his descendants never got the chance and instead the Umayyad dynasty was settled.

Cause of Schism  The people that didn't agree with only Ali´s descendants being Caliph were then called Sunni´s and their long conflict begun.

NOW A DAY CONFLICTS  The Sunni and the Shiite have a constant fight that has been on for more than 1500 years. This fight was suppose to be about religion, but it has turn into a political fight for power. This fights have increase in this last century.  In Gaza strip the terrorist group of Hamas that is form by the Shiites, receive money from Iran, and is less violent, but hates Jewish people.  The political group, but terrorist too named Fatah, is form by Sunni. Is an ally with the country of Syria and also hates Jewish.  These two groups hate each other, but the Fatah is the more violent of the two groups.

NOW A DAY CONFLICTS  In Iraq the constant fights between Sunni and Shi’a or Shiite are beginning to be a serious problem because the cause of death by this fights preoccupy some people.  The Shiites have the largest amount of petroleum, and we don’t know what they will do with all that money they can have.  Lebanon has another terrorist group form by Shiites in its south called Hezbolla, and Iran is taking care of giving them money. People say that the first two groups have given big amounts of dead people, but this third group will give a huge conflict that can harm millions of people.
