The Olympic games are the most shining sport event in the world. Hundreds of athletes prepare for this life tournament. Those who manage to climb on the Olympic pedestal, become a role model for millions. Their achievements remain forever in the history of sport and the Olympic movement.

In 2014 the important event of the year the XXII winter Olympic games will be held in Russia. I want to tell you about this event. The XXII winter Olympic games are international sporting event will be held in the Russian city Sochi in February in The capital of the Olympic games Sochi was selected in Guatemala city, on July Russia will be held the Olympic games in the second time. After the Olympic games Paralympic winter games will be held in 2014.

Of course, all kinds of sports are good, but special preference I give to figure skating. Sitting in front of TV screens millions of people watch every movement of figure skaters with bated breath. Yes, this kind of sport is fascinating and spectacular thanks to its elegance.

Figure skating has very interesting history. It turns out that the Origins of figure skating lay in the distant past, and had their roots in the bronze age (end of 4th-beginning of the 1st Millennium BC). Skates of limbs of large animals showed that. Similar findings were found in many countries of Europe, and the oldest «skates» were found on the banks of the southern bug river near Odessa.

However, the birth of figure skating as a sport, connected with the moment when the skates began to make of iron, and not from the bones. According to research for the first time it happened in Holland in XII-XIV century. Originally figure skating was a competition on the skill of the trace on the ice.

The first fans clubs of figure skating appeared in the XVIII century in the British Empire in Edinburgh (1742). There the first official competition rules was developed. Lieutenant of artillery, Robert Jones issued a «Treatise on skating» (1772), which described all the major figures, which were then known.

From Europe figure skating hit in the US and Canada, where it received a great development. Numerous clubs skaters were created here. New models of skates were developed. School of technology was created. Harry Jackson from the United States became famous in the 60s of the XIX century in Europe.

Jackson Harry showed Europeans elegant rhythmic dance and graceful movements of the body. It served as a stimulus that caused a huge qualitative leap forward and subsequently led to the formation of new forms of the manifestation of art. Later 100 years (from 1742) in figure skating almost all modern compulsory figures and the main techniques were already known. At the Congress I in 1871, figure skating was recognized as a sport.

First skaters were only men, but then the beautiful half of humanity began to skate. We can say that the pair figure skating appeared immediately after the popularization of this sport. But officially the first competitions were held only in 1908 in St. Petersburg. German figure skaters Anna Humbler and Henry Burger were famous as the first Olympic Champions in pair skating.

Sports dancing on ice appeared in the late 1940s in the UK and then spread throughout the world. In 1952 sport dances were included in the program of world and European Championships.

Synchronous figure skating is a recent discipline of figure skating. In the modern form synchronous skating appeared in 60s in the United States, but the idea of the group skating appeared much earlier.

Figure skating in Russia has been known since the times of Peter I. The Russian Tsar was brought from Europe the first samples of skates. It was Peter the great who came up with a new way of attaching skates - right to boots -, and thus he created the «model» of today's equipment of the skaters.

Russian figure skating as a sport was born in Then a public skating rink was opened in the Yusupov gardens on Sadovaya street. The skating rink was the most comfortable in Russia.

Figure skating became very popular in Russia. Every year more and more children get up on the ice. There are many famous figure skaters. Unusual atmosphere, exotic costumes... It's so beautiful.
