UTeach Nationwide

What is UTeach? An innovative, university-based secondary STEM teacher preparation program initiated in 1997 at The University of Texas at Austin. A collaboration between colleges designed to recruit STEM majors to earn both a degree in their major and certification to teach within four years.

UTeach Elements of Success 1. Distinctive Program Identity 2. Cross-College and School District Collaboration 3. Long-Term Institutional and Community Support 4. Compact and Flexible Degree Plans 5. Active Student Recruitment and Support 6. Dedicated Master Teachers 7. Rigorous, Research-Based Instruction 8. Early and Intensive Field Experiences 9. Continuous Program Improvement

What is UTeach Replication? What is meant by replication? Replacing the existing undergraduate secondary math and science teacher preparation program with the UTeach program. Structured Approach Implementation Implementation over 4.5 years, beginning with a comprehensive Planning Period (Spring and Summer 2014), followed by four academic years of program implementation. Universities begin offering UTeach courses in Fall 2014 with graduates expected during the 2017 – 18 academic year. How much room is there for adapting the model? Programs should be implemented in alignment to UTeach model All program elements of success should be implemented, with appropriate variation, given local and state context

The UTeach Network Collectively our mission is to promote the critical role that universities play in the preparation of excellent STEM teachers and improving STEM literacy. More than 300 faculty and 100 master teachers affiliated with UTeach programs –Develop course activities and share innovations –Provide professional development –Provide peer consulting –Participate in shared research –Seek collaborative grant opportunities
