This amendment defines modifications to the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer needed to support this new physical layer. Slide 37 Arthur Astrin March 2013

doc.: IEEE Submission Slide 38 CMB Background Wireless connectivity is already used for healthcare applications both within hospitals and in residential situations. This provides flexibility to clinicians and healthcare providers and mobility and convenience for the patients. Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPAN) are already widely being used for this. Applications include electrocardiography and the monitoring of pulse oximetry, blood pressure and glucose levels as well as other patient vital signs like respiration, heart rate and temperature. In China as in the US, LR-WPAN is part of the growing Internet of Things Industries; it has been applied in hospital areas for medical and related info communications. IEEE Std Chinese medical devices will make use of the existing high volume applications in the Chinese medical bands. Arthur Astrin March 2013

doc.: IEEE Submission SC Maintenance Larry Taylor presented “ use by external SDOs” (doc ) The IEEE Work Group (WG) is in the process of considering a number of significant changes to the standard, Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPANs), and is soliciting input from all Standard Development Organizations (SDOs), businesses, and individuals that would be impacted by these changes. The changes are described in his presentation and summarized here: 1.using a Frame Type ID value as an extension to indicate following bits are new Frame types 2.restructuring Information Element IDs to allow IDs to be assigned to external SDOs 3.changing the order of the Information Element length and type fields. These break backward compatibility so a Call for Opinion will be issued with responses reviewed at the May 2-13 Session Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC Slide 91January 2013
