Do you think your job is interesting, exciting or dynamic? A large majority of employees perceive their job in Supply Chain as interesting, exciting or dynamic (88%). There are almost no employees who think that their job is never interesting. Supply Chain function are seen as very challenging.

Does your company offer enough opportunities for personal growth? Personal growth is something that has to be looked at in companies. Almost half of all Supply Chain employees don’t think their company offers them enough room for personal growth. This is one of the possible reasons for people leaving the company.

Did you get a promotion in the last three years? Almost the half of employees did get promotion the last 3 years. Supply chain is a very upwardly mobile market

Comparison room for personal growth – did you get promotion the last three years? The majority of employees who think they don't have enough room for personal growth, did not get a promotion the last 3 years. This creates a definite danger for job hopping. A small majority got promotion the last 3 years en thinks they have enough room for personal growth. There's still a large amount of employees who didn't get promotion the last three years but think they have enough room for personal growth.

Comparison: Do you think your job is interesting – have you thought about changing jobs in the last year? The less interesting employees think their job is, the more they thought about changing jobs in the last year. Still 75% of the employees who think their job is always interesting, thought about changing jobs in the last year. Even in good jobs, strong supply chain employees are continuous on the look out for other/better opportunities. General conclusion: you have to provide good SC Specialists with internal career opportunities/higher salaries. Companies have to continiously invest in ther human capital.

Your average working week consists of how many hours? Most of the employees work between 40 and 55 hours per week with a majority between 45 and 50 hours per week. Being in Supply Chain is not a nine to five job. Going forward means working longer hours.

Comparison working week - salary The more hours you work per week, the more salary you will get. As you can see, salary and working are an indication what level people are working on. The higher up in the chain of command the longer hours you will have to put in.

How much travelling does your job contain? The majority of employees spend less than 30% of their working time abroad, with the largest amount less than 10% abroad. 83% of the employees in Supply Chain have to spend some of their working time abroad. 5% of the employees in Supply Chain spend more than the half of their working time abroad.

Comparison time spent abroad - salary More time spent abroad means getting a higher salary. When you spend more than the half of your working time abroad, you don't get a higher salary anymore. The remuneration levels off at a certain time.

Comparison working week – sometimes working abroad The higher the level, the more time you spend abroad and the longer the hours you work. When you work more than 45 hours in a week, about 90% of the employees will work some of the time abroad. Note: <38h: only 2 surveyed persons, so this is not representative.

What is the work pressure like in your company? The majority thinks that the work-pressure at their current company is rather high. There are almost no employees who think that the work-pressure at their current company is rather low. Dependend on the level, the pressure rises. Supply Chain is regarded as being a challenging work environment with a high work pressure which is result-driven.

How often do you experience stress at work? There are almost no employees who don't experience stress at work. A small percentage always experience stress at work. The majority of employees think that they sometimes or often experience stress at work. Stress and work pressure go hand in hand in delivering results on a Supply Chain level.

How many training opportunities does your company offer on an annual basis? The number of training opportunities are spread from none to four or more. The majority of employees in Supply Chain have one or two training opportunities annually.

Is the number of trainings provided sufficient? The majority of employees think that the current training opportunities are sufficient to further their expertise.

How is your job perceived within the company? When the job is perceived by your direct supervisor or yourself, it will be in a strategical way in the majority of cases. The most important internal customers mostly perceive Supply Chain functions in an operational way. This is where Supply Chain still has to prove itself as a department. Direct supervisors look at the functions of their Supply Chain employees almost as much tactical as in a strategical way.

Is Supply Chain directly represented within the Board of Directors? In about half (59%) of the companies, Supply Chain is directly represented within the Board of Directors.

Do you think the strategic value of your function is underestimated within your company? Conclusion: Almost 90% of employees in Supply Chain think companies underestimate the strategic value of their function.

Would you like to build your further career in Supply Chain or do you sometimes look at other functions? SC is a part of the company where most people like to stay in.

How long does it take you to get to work every day (single journey)? Most of the employees have to take 15 to 30 minutes to get to work every day (single journey). However the time to get to work is spread evenly. There's no big majority. Mobility is a problem. Almost 70% of all employees work within a 35 min radius of where they live.

A large majority (82%) of Supply Chain employees has thought about changing jobs in the last year.

If you were to change jobs, what would be the most important factors to do so? The most important factor to change jobs is the challenge offered in the other job. Almost half of the employees consider the atmosphere at the other job as most important. Less important factors are the direct manager or responsible and the distance to work. Work pressure is a factor that is almost not important. If we look at work-pressure, we see that 62% thinks it's rather high. So at other companies the work pressure will also be high.

Are you happy with your current salary? More than the half of employees in Supply Chain aren't happy with their current salary.

How much should your monthly gross salary go up to be fair? More than the half of employees who aren't happy with their current salary, want to earn more than 400 €/month more, with the majority even more than 500 €/month more. Note: It’s needed to raise salaries with minimum 10% when you get a raise or you change jobs. This is needed to keep employees motivated. We only work with employees on a supervisor level, so they have a graduate level and minimum three years of experience.

Do you think you make more/less/the same than someone with the same job in another company? Almost the half thinks he makes the same than someone with the same job in another company. A bit more than a quarter thinks he makes more than someone with the same job in another company and a quarter thinks he makes less. Wages in all of Supply Chain should go up. They all want to make more money but they don’t think other companies offer better remuneration packages.
