Quadrilaterals By Billy Hudson 4/14/05 Geometry 4 th period

What is a Quadrilateral? A Quadrilateral is a shape that has 4 sides, 4 vertices, and 2 diagonals.

Different Types of Quadrilateral. There are many different types of quadrilaterals, but most common are the Parallelogram, rectangle, square, trapezoid, and the rhombus.

Parallelograms A parallelogram is a 4-sided shape formed by two pairs of parallel lines. It has equal sides and have the same length and equal measure. To find the area of a parallelogram, multiply the base by the height. Ex. A=b x h

Rectangles Rectangles are shapes that have 4- sides, but the length and height are not equal.

Trapezoids The trapezoid is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. The area of the trapezoid is equal to the average of the bases times the height. So, you add the two bases, divide by 2, and then multiply by the height. area = ((b 1 + b 2 ) / 2)h

Square A square is a closed 4-sided plane with four equal sides.

Rhombus A rhombus is a quadrilateral with both pair of parallel sides equal in length. It is also called a equilateral parallelogram.

This concludes my presentation and if you have any questions, ask me or if I don’t know, ask Ms. Burley.
