June 4, 2013 Presentation to the El Pomar High Country Council  Median Income: 76% of the state average (Census)  Child poverty, 26.6% (state 18.1%) (Census)  Food costs 18% higher than national average (Lake County Food Assessment)  Health insurance costs 68%-72% higher than in Denver (ehealthinsurance.com )  Study of 30 low-income Lake County families showed families spending 20% of their income on fuel (fuel poverty is considered 10%) (C4)  Bedroom community for Eagle, Summit & Chaffee Counties; many residents spend a lot on commuting (anecdotal) COMMUNITY CHALLENGES: ECONOMIC
