SUMMER IMMERSION SPANISH CAMP

WILL STUDENTS BECOME PROFICIENT BY TAKING FLEX? (Foreign Language Exploratory) Explore a variety of languages and culture. Awareness of studying a foreign language.

TO STUDY A FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIRES A LOT OF COMMITMENT Learning as a lifelong experience. Trying it out in all different modalities: orally, reading, writing, listening. Following the Standards for Foreign Languages: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparison, Communities.

HOW DO STUDENTS BECOME PROFICIENT IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE? Starting early in life. Being exposed to it on an everyday basis. Following the Standards for Foreign Language, especially Communication.

COULD IT BE CONFUSING LEARNING ENGLISH AND A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AT THE SAME TIME? Children are able to easily differentiate their own language from the foreign language.

WHY IS LEARNING EARLY BETTER? Our brains adapt and absorb it more easily. Younger students are much more able to cope with not fully understanding everything. The level of fluency is more likely to be higher than those who start later.

SUMMER IMMERSION SPANISH CAMP 1 ST year: Kindergarten and 1 st grade. 2 ND year: Second grade.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES? Total Physical Response. Visual aids. Acting out songs, rhymes. Games. Puppet theater. Follow a routine.

IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE INVOLVED ? Teaching of culture Trying to embed the standards for foreign language education.

HOW CAN WE AS A COMMUNITY ACHIEVE SECOND LANGUAGE FLUENCY? Having a world language beginning in the Elementary school years. Cultivating continuity. Dedicating adequate resources to foreign language.
