Project rationale To prepare teachers who  are knowledgeable about the needs of young learners and early language learning (Cameron, 2001; Pinter, 2006; Enever, 2011; Szpotowicz, 2013; Szpotowicz, Campfield & Rycielska, 2014 )  can provide students with meaningful language use and richer language exposure ( Kuppens,2010; Lefever, 2010; Lindgren and Muñoz, 2012 )  can cope with a variety of teaching contexts including language and content integration (Lyster, 2007;Met, 2008; Frigols Martin, 2011; Cammerata & Tedick, 2012)  understand the role of reflection in their learning and professional development (Richards & Lockhart, 1996; Farrell, 2013)  understand the role of collaboration as a way to educate children as well as a tool for professional growth (Richards & Farrell, 2005) Project Bilingual education. MA in teaching English to young learners as a second and foreign language co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund

The Main Aims of the Project To increase the level of education by developing and launching the new graduate program in teaching English to young learners with special focus on content and language integrated learning and bilingual education. To increase the knowledge base and skills of 50 students and 15 teachers in the area of language education with special focus on CLIL, bilingual education, language assessment and information technology

To enrich the experiences of University of Warsaw Faculty by utilizing the Partners’ expertise in teacher education as well as by implementing new student teacher development tools such as Teaching Portfolio. To strengthen the transnational cooperation among Partner universities involved in teacher education: University of Warsaw, University of Jyväskylä, University of Ljubljana and Umeå University.

Project highlights: developing the new MA program with the expertise of faculty from partner universities developing an educational platform entitled MA in teaching English to young learners as a second and foreign language including Teaching Portfolio completing five (5) study visits (2 visits to Finland, 2 to Slovenia, 1 to Sweden). organizing a series of workshops and lectures offered by Polish and International experts organizing an international conference in June 2015

Practicum hours in the Project: 60 hours during this academic year (120 total during 2 years) 30 hours of workshops led by the university supervisor 10 additional hours spent with an advisor and expert in the field (experienced teachers and academics from a variety of contexts including international schools, schools offering PYP, and others)

During Practicum Student teachers are working alongside experienced language and elementary teachers Both students and teachers are planning and teaching using CLIL approach Advisors and supervising faculty are additional resources
