The Holy Spirit Sanctifies Us Lesson 10

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

What has Jesus done? He completed his work of redeeming the world.

Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."

What has Jesus done? He completed his work of redeeming the world. He gives us the personal benefit through faith (trust) in him.

Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? What we are like by nature: Dead in transgressions and sins

Romans 8:7 The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? What we are like by nature: Dead in transgressions and sins Enemies of God

1 Corinthians 2:14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? What we are like by nature: Dead in transgressions and sins Enemies of God Blind to God’s message, we think it is foolishness

Therefore we cannot... come to believe in Jesus as our Savior.

Ephesians 2:4-9 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? How saving faith comes: it is a gift of God

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? How saving faith comes: it is a gift of God through the Gospel message

1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

How do we come to trust in Jesus Christ? the Holy Spirit The one who is in charge of this work is the Holy Spirit

The work of the Holy Spirit calls meleads me to know and trust my Savior, Jesus The Holy Spirit calls me, that is, He leads me to know and trust my Savior, Jesus

2 Thessalonians 2:14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The work of the Holy Spirit calls meleads me to know and trust my Savior, Jesus the Gospel. The Holy Spirit calls me, that is, He leads me to know and trust my Savior, Jesus by the Gospel.

This work of the Holy Spirit is also called: (being born again)

Psalm 19:7-8 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

The work of the Holy Spirit enlightens me gives me spiritual understanding and joy (through the Gospel). The Holy Spirit enlightens me, that is, He gives me spiritual understanding and joy (through the Gospel).

Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

John 15:5 Hebrews 11:6 I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. And without faith it is impossible to please God

The work of the Holy Spirit sanctifies me sets me apart from the unbelieving world for a life of good works. The Holy Spirit sanctifies me, that is, He sets me apart from the unbelieving world for a life of good works.

1 Peter 2:2-3 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

The work of the Holy Spirit keeps me in the faith Gospel. The Holy Spirit keeps me in the faith through the Gospel.

Matthew 12:31 And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire.

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Two reminders for God's children: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit after he has converted you by closing your heart to the Word.

Ephesians 5:18-19 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Two reminders for God's children: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit after he has converted you by closing your heart to the Word. Always be filled with the Spirit through faithful use of God's Word in worship.
