Eating as Jesus Ate!

Eating as Jesus Ate! John 4:32-34 (NIV) But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?” “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Eating as Jesus Ate!

John 6:26-40 (NIV) Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” Eating as Jesus Ate!

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Eating as Jesus Ate!

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Eating as Jesus Ate!

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. Eating as Jesus Ate!

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Eating as Jesus Ate!

One man said: “The issue of eating is of more importance today than perhaps ever in history. Our generation is able to find foods from all over the world in the supermarket at the end of the street. In addition, we can prepare them in a flash or eat them ready-made. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Processed foods and an increase in food consumption have made modern man bigger and, tragically, unhealthier than his predecessors. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Just fifty years ago the common diseases that plagued mankind were contagious external ones such as tuberculosis, but today most diseases come from within, such as cancer and heart disease, many of which are often caused by substance intake. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Yet good food and eating well are one of the great pleasures of life Yet good food and eating well are one of the great pleasures of life. A holiday is hardly a holiday unless you eat well. Imagine a birthday party without a cake! Food is not just a source of sustenance but also a source of satisfaction and a cause for communion, all of which are important in the Lord's eyes.” Eating as Jesus Ate!

This morning I want us to consider what Jesus would teach us considering our spiritual appetite and compare it with our physical appetite! Eating as Jesus Ate!

1. Hunger is a sign of health. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Sick people don't like to eat; weak people likewise Sick people don't like to eat; weak people likewise. At times it is necessary to force feed them or to hover over a reluctant child with a spoonful of food in your hand. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Jesus said; "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteous for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)" Eating as Jesus Ate!

2. You are what you eat. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Your body's well-being is determined by what it eats Your body's well-being is determined by what it eats. Similarly your soul's well-being is determined by what it feasts upon. Feed your mind with junk TV and you will have a life full of junk! Trash in=Trash out Eating as Jesus Ate!

3. Eating together produces intimacy. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV) “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Eating as Jesus Ate!

Throughout the week here at Life we eat together (both physically and spiritually)! Eating as Jesus Ate!

4. Never put physical food above spiritual food. Eating as Jesus Ate!

Just as physical food is necessary for us to live and grow we also need to sustain and develop our spiritual life by Hearing, Reading, Studying, Memorising & Meditating on God’s word the Bible. Eating as Jesus Ate!
