What is it ? An electric vehicle is a car which need electricity to function. An electric vehicle is a car which need electricity to function. There is different types of electric cars : classic electric car, with a lithium battery, solar cars (it can be hybrid) with solar or photovoltaic panels, or hybrid cars ( different from the others : electric motor + diesel motor ). There is different types of electric cars : classic electric car, with a lithium battery, solar cars (it can be hybrid) with solar or photovoltaic panels, or hybrid cars ( different from the others : electric motor + diesel motor ).

What is it ? These cars need some special parts such as batteries which are specific to electric cars. It was created many years ago but it can reduce pollution from cars and buses all over the world.

Advantages

Advantages Great yield compared to classic cars : 85 % of energy is used, 35 % for petrol cars. Just a little part of the energy is wasted : that is really better than petrol cars.

Advantages These cars are less noisy than other cars, that is also a great advantage, above in cities.

Advantages Some of the electric cars are easier to use than other cars : automatic gearbox...

Advantages We can install in many big cities charging stations to encourage people to buy it and reduce pollution in these cities.

Advantages Many helps and bonuses are also created by the government and the car industries, to encourage people to buy these cars.

Advantages In some countries, as Israël, specific engines were created and are in development to permit people to change their battery in one or two minutes.

Advantages The biggest advantage : it doesn't pollute (excepted hybrid cars, which pollute a little ) so it is better for the environment than other cars as diesel cars.

Drawbacks

Drawbacks High cost to rent the battery and buy the car. Electric cars are recent in France, so people are still hesitant. In addition, it is very expensive and the battery rental requests a monthly deposit.

Drawbacks The production of batteries pollutes (lithium) The batteries are made with lithium, which is highly polluting and the recycling of batteries is not really developed. The extraction of lithium creates social, environmental and political problems in South America, especially in Bolivia.

Drawbacks Use nuclear power station to produce electricity. The electricity to be produced requires the use of nuclear energy which is very bad for health and nature!

Drawbacks A few charging stations. As they are very recent, the charging stations are not widespread in France. Buyers need to install a charging station at home that is paid for.

Drawbacks Important cost even if there are bonuses given. The bonuses which are given by the government are good to encourage people in buying electric cars, but they lose money by doing it (7000€).

Drawbacks Car’s silence is dangerous in town. These cars are very silencious because it is electric so it’s very dangerous in city for pedestrians, indeed there can be some electromagnetic airwaves which can be dangerous for the health.

Drawbacks We need to replace the engine parts regulary. Moreover it’s really expensive.

Conclusion Advantages are considerable but unfortunately some drawbacks existing and needs to be addressed to achieve a sustainable and low- carbon eco car, the environment. However, there are other electric vehicles such as buses, trains with same advantages and drawbacks. We still need to improve to get into sustainable and environmentally friendly city.
