How to Tell If Your Life Is Out Of Balance 1.You feel out of control of your life. 2.You are easily overwhelmed by simple things. 3.Your children ask who the stranger is when you come home. 4.Feeling distanced from loved ones. 5.Unable to find time to enjoy personal relationships. 6.Constantly feeling you have no time. 7.Always anxious or depressed for no reason. 8.Chronic Sadness. 9.Constantly preoccupied with work related concerns. 10.Wake up in the same clothes you went to work in.

The reality…

5 million people… 7.2 hours a week worth £5402 each   The number of people working 'extreme' unpaid overtime of more than ten hours a week increased by 14,000 to nearly 900,000 last year, according a new analysis of official statistics. - Published by the TUC to mark Work Your Proper Hours Day (WYPHD).

What Are The Effects? I Think I’m Out of Balance!

What Steps Do I Take? Prioritize

Take Some Time To Reflect Identify, List and Prioritize:  Your Personal Needs  Work Responsibilities  Family & Relationship Needs

Balancing Work and Home Prioritizing Tool Use this chart to list the things important to you, and the areas of your life that you would like to prioritize. What Steps Do I Take? Make a Plan

Beware of the Time and Energy Thieves Use the Priorities Grid Think about eliminating Items in Quadrants 2 and 4

Additional Planning Tips

Use Your Commute Time Wisely. It may be the only “ME” time you get. Use the time to unwind and transition from work to home. Listen to relaxing music or audio books.

Share the workload at home. Keep a chores list on the fridge for the whole family with names assigned. Try to make meal preparation fun: include your children and turn on some lively music Hire a reliable teenager from your neighborhood to “take some of the edge off”

Plan Meals Ahead. Each week plan 2-3 meals Ahead of Time. Keep your pantry well-stocked to accommodate those frenzied or “grab and go” meals. Remember, even take-out takes time, often as much as making a quick meal at home.

Set Time Aside For Fun and Relaxation. Find activities that you can do as a family. - Include physical activities like skating and rollerblading, cycling or going on hikes. Plan regular “dates” with your spouse or partner. Don’t forget to include some “personal time” for your own hobbies or activities.

Monitor your workload. If you are the employee: - Speak out when you are overloaded. If you are the supervisor: - learn how to delegate more effectively. Don’t try to do the work of your employees.

What Works for you? Group Discussion Time

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff Life is too short to worry about leaves, focus on the roots.

Finally, Take Action And Remember: Know It Won’t Always Be Perfect  Be grateful for what goes right and learn from your mistakes.  Do what you can and enjoy whatever time you spend more pleasantly and productively.  Time management is not an exact science. Don’t stress out by obsessing over every second of time.

Life-Work Balance Achieving the Holy Grail … it’s in your hands!
