Presentation transcript:

Lung cancer, like all cancers, happens with abnormal cell function. Lung cancer is a very life threatening cancer, as it tends to spread early and is very hard to treat. Lung cancer tumors can spread to any organ in the body, certain organs, especially, the adrenal glands, liver, brain, and bone, are the most common sites for lung-cancer tumors. Lung cancer is the most common of cancer deaths in both men and women.

Lung cancer is mainly a dieses of the elderely, with 70% of Lung-cancer cases in people over 65 years of age, with less then 3% of cases in people under 45. Before the 1930’s lung-cancer was not common, but over time tobacco consumption increased the death rates of lung cancer. Smoking causes of 90% of lung cancer, the more cigarettes you smoke the greater the chance of death by lung cancer. Some other causes of lung cancer are, pollution in the air; lung diseses and family members in past generations passing down the cancer.

Lung cancer symptoms vary from person to person, in 25% of cases there are no symptoms and lung cancer tumors are discovered on routine CT scans or chest x-rays. Most often people that have lung cancer tumors may interfere with breathing, leading to symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, and coughing up blood.

Treatment for lung cancer can involve surgery to remove the cancer, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy, as well as combinations of these treatments. The decision about which treatments will be used for a given person must take into account the whereabouts and extent of the tumor as well as the overall health of the patient.

Nothing can really prevent lung cancer, only if you smoke, can you prevent it by quitting. Passive smokers can cut back on their daily intake of cigarettes or quit altogether with the help of nicotine gum, nicotine sprays, or nicotine inhalers. Children of parents who smoke cigarettes should be aware of the smoke in the air and how much they breath in, adults can prevent smoke intake for children by arranging a smoking place.
