#1 What guideline did the Supreme Court give us to help determine if a type of punishment, other than execution, is cruel or unusual punishment? if the punishment “isolates an inmate” it isn’t allowed. If the punishment doesn’t cause “feelings of repentance” it isn’t allowed. If the punishment “accelerates the integrity” of the country it isn’t allowed. If the punishment “shocks the conscience of the civilized world” it isn’t allowed.
