KEEP WALKING… Lifelong Learning in the New Economy ‘Gbenga Sesan Lagos Digital Village | Abeokuta ICT Seminar. Adesba Hotel, Abeokuta, NIGERIA. Saturday, June

Every Journey, One Step Every journey begins with one step – even great journeys. Start now Its time to assess yourself:  Where are you going?  What ICT tools would help you get there?  How much of IT do you know now?  What do you need to learn?  How do you learn IT? Your journey to ICT proficiency will begin with one STEP: Search Engines, Thirst, Educative sites and Published works

Basic Understanding Basic understanding begins with mastery of the computer as a tool Today’s work environment requires great understanding of office productivity tools (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation) and internet tools ( , search) Emerging technologies must be embraced, lest you miss out on opportunities or feel out of this generation – e.g. the German advert and the Teletypewriter Technology is an enabler, but may also serve as a hiccup for those who don’t understand it – e.g. Final Year Project vs. Registry Staff

I.T. and Your Career Information Technology has dug into the fabric of every profession… From precision agriculture to fashion information management, each career is responding to the challenges of the New Economy You must identify where IT meets your career. Which areas involve information – its management, manipulation or dissemination This diversified relevance of I. T. is reshaping professionalism in the New Economy. Multidisciplinary paths define new roles and responsibilities Careers that don’t bend to I.T. will break away from relevance – e.g. typists and personal secretaries

I.T. in Life, Work and Play When next you get home, your mood will decide which music plays as you open the door Convergence and integration will soon replace your TV, CD/DVD player, mobile phone, music device and remote control with one single device Have you noticed that the world’s richest and most influential men are those who deal with information – and appropriate technology tools to propagate them? Each successive generation is getting more comfortable with what previous generations saw as high-tech. Can’t you sense the trend?

Keep Walking… Lifelong Learning in the learning paradigm of the New Economy. No end to learning and skill acquisition I.T. offers you a reservoir of resources – online. From MIT’s OpenCourseWare ( to ITrainOnline ( and to search tools, the limit is non-existent , discussion groups, mailing lists, webzines and your own website/weblog will help you connect with the right people, skills, opportunities and knowledge I’m on a journey. Do you want to come with me? Then, keep walking…

THANK YOU Do you have any questions? ‘Gbenga Sesan Lagos Digital Village | Abeokuta ICT Seminar. Adesba Hotel, Abeokuta, NIGERIA. Saturday, June
