Once upon a time an old couple who had no children, but desired children, found a big juicy peach. When the old woman cut open the peach there was a baby boy inside.

Momotaro grew into a strong young boy and decided to defeat the ogres that terrorized his land.

On his way to the ogres, Momotaro met and joined up with a monkey,

a dog,

and a pheasant.

Together they defeated the ogres

and lived happily ever after. The End

Born in Okayama Prefecture, Momotaro is one of Japan’s most famous folk tales. Momotaro was written in the Edo period of Japan, although the exact date is unclear. in being the birthplace of the the Momotaro festival once a Momotaro festival, Okayama named after him. If you look in the picture there is Momotaro, the monkey, the pheasant, and the dog from the folktale. Momotaro has also appeared in movies. In 1931, Aerial Momotaro was made, Aerial Momotaro was an animated movie in which Momotaro defended monkeys from the south sea against penguins and albatrosses. Aerial Momotaro also subliminally promoted Japanese seclusion from the world.
