CHAPTER 7-1 SOLVING SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS

WARM UP  Graph the following linear functions:  Y = 2x + 2  Y = 1/2x – 3  Y = -x - 1

chapter 7-1 notes (solving systems of equations) What value for x would make this statement true? x + 5 = 10 2x + 4 = 16

 What values for x and y would make this equation true? X + 3 = y Y = 3x

 What values for x and y would make BOTH of these equations true? There can only be one value for x and one value for y. y = x – 1 y = 2x - 3 This is a system of linear equations. That is when you have two or more linear equations together. Our answer to this problem will be the solution of the system of linear equations.

 What values for x and y would make BOTH of these equations true? There can only be one value for x and one value for y. y = x + 2 y = 2x - 3

 What values for x and y would make BOTH of these equations true? There can only be one value for x and one value for y. y = -.5x + 2 y = -3x - 3

y = -2x + 4 y = 3x - 1

y = x – 1 y = -x + 7

 How to solve a system of equations by graphing: Step 1: Step 2: Step 3:

 Practice: Y = 4x + 7y = -x -3y = x Y = -3xy = -2x – 8x = 2y + 2
