The unaided eye can distinguish objects more than 0.1 mm in diameter. Since most cells are between mm in diameter, scientists use microscopes.

Part 1: Creating Simplified Drawings Replace the Box with digital image of frog skin epidermal cells Figure #1: From your digital picture, create a simplified drawing of 4-6 eukaryotic cells. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates estimated size of an individual cell with units…. remember, low power (100X) has a field of view diameter of 1500µm. High power field of view depends on if you are using 400x or 430X. Can solve for High power magnification’s field of view using the equation: (Magnification on low) (1500µm) = (magnification on high)(?)…solve for ? Delete this note prior to printing! Leave space opposite to hand draw and label all visible structures in the cells you observed at the right -Pencil only -find the clearest group of 4-6 cells to draw!!! -Include labels -be detailed (stipple! NOT shade!!!) Figure #2: From your digital picture, create a simplified drawing of 4-6 eukaryotic cells. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates estimated size of an individual cell with units. Part A: Creating simplified drawings of eukaryotic cells Cell Lab

Part 1: Creating Simplified Drawings Continued Figure #3: From your digital picture. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates estimated size of an individual cell with units. Delete this note prior to printing! Leave space opposite to hand draw and label all visible structures in the cells you observed at the right -Pencil only --Include labels -be detailed (stipple! NOT shade!!!) Figure #4: From your digital picture, create a simplified drawing of the cell. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates estimated size of an individual cell with units. Part B: Creating simplified drawings of prokaryotic cells Plasma Membrane (Hard to see) 0.5 µm (0.0005mm

Part 2: Labeling Digital Pictures Replace the Box w/ the digital image of your Elodea leaf that clearly shows the mesophyll cells Figure #5: Copy and paste this picture in a Word document. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates the estimated size of an individual cell with the units. Label all the organelles that you can see from this picture. Figure #6: From your digital picture, create a simplified drawing of 4-6 eukaryotic cells. Include figure titles with appropriate headings and captions. Must include total magnification, a bar that indicates estimated size of an individual cell with units. Part C: Preparing a wet mount slide of a Elodea leaf to observes cells Part D: Preparing a iodine stained slide of an onion cell Replace the Box w/ Preparing a stained slide of an onion cell
