There is a specific process that must be followed for a person to become a saint. Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II are in the process of becoming saints.
Saints are people who have lived their life on Earth obedient to God’s will. They did not live perfect lives, but they were determined to work towards a holy life at all times. We are called to be saints here on Earth and to live holy lives.
Servant of God A potential saint’s cause is started by a priest and is presented to a bishop. Once the potential saint has been accepted for consideration to sainthood, they are called a Servant of God. Father Vincent Capodanno

Blessed When 1 miracle has been established, the Venerable person’s cause is presented to the Pope. The Pope then decides if they will become Blessed. Blessed Junipero Serra
